We focus on providing disciplined and prudent stewardship of client assets paired with strong risk management. We invest with a medium to long-term investment horizon and we view ourselves as business owners of the companies we invest in, not speculators. As business owners we measure success by the growth of Intrinsic Value over time. A well-managed high-quality growing business will inevitably grow Intrinsic Value for shareholders. Patience is essential to allow for this growth in Intrinsic Value, as management teams need time to execute.
Our security selection process is disciplined and systematic, because we believe investing is more intelligent and less emotional the more it is based on rules and procedures. Central to this discipline is our commitment to a Margin of Safety, so we scour the globe looking for investment opportunities that offer a Margin of Safety. Securing a Margin of Safety is essential when making an investment, as it prevents and limits potential losses that can occur in a portfolio. If there is a Margin of Safety embedded on all purchases made, the probability of a favorable outcome is quite high. If in addition these purchases are made over a long period of time, the prices paid for the assets provide the whole portfolio with an even greater Margin of Safety. Investing with a Margin of Safety skews the relationship between risk and reward in our favor.
